73 challenger foot pump w/washers.
« on: June 03, 2014 - 08:53:00 AM »
The foot pump washers work fine.  But read you could make them work with power and a pump somewhere.  Went to check out the bottle to see how to put a pump in it.  But it has a pump.  And a brown power wire coming out of the harness near the alternator hooked up to the pump.  No switch anywhere I can see to turn it on.  But again, the foot pump works.  Is the foot pump just pushing fluid thru the electric pump?  When I have someone work the foot pump and reach down to feel the electric pump to see if its working, its not. It works fine with the foot pump so its not that important, but the whole not understanding how its supposed to work that way had me drinking a six pack of beer and scratching my head looking at it.   Any thoughts?   :clueless:

I'm thinking a previous owner already started to change to an electric pump. If you have a foot pump the original washer bottle didn't have a pump.
In addition to what CP said, after you have the electric pump turning on through the wiper switch, you will need to re-route your hoses to the hood squirters. I don't think the electric pump can push fluid through the foot pump. Maybe it can?

Pushing the wiper switch does nothing.  The washer pump power wire is just hanging in the dash.  The wiper switch has no detent washer function for lack of a better word.  The foot pump creates enough vacuum to pull washer fluid right thru the pump.  I like the more nostalgic foot pump anyway.  So it's all going to stay just the way it is.  It will remain a conversation piece that way.  :)

You just push the knob in toward the dash, it's not a 'turn' or 'twist' function of the knob, so no, there is no detent for wash.

Tried that too. It will not push in at all.  That's probably why previous owner stopped and left the wire hanging.
