5.7 wiring question.
« on: July 17, 2014 - 03:00:24 PM »
Hi all,

I'm installing a 5.7 in my 74 challenger and modding the harness out of a Durango for the engine management. my question is  do I need to run the oil pressure and water temp sensor to the ECM and T into the block for my stock gauges or can I bypass and just use the sending units for the stock gauges?

thanks

The ECM probably will not care about oil pressure but for the enrichment [think choke] to work the ECM has to know the coolant temp to adjust fuel mix

I agree.

I'm not sure if the 5.7 is the same as the 6.1L, but on my 6.1L there is both a oil pressure sender and an oil temp sender.  You could replace the oil temp sender with a pressure sender for your gauges, or just tee off of the pressure sender.

For the water temp, on the 6.1L the factory temp sensor is screwed in to the block in the valley below the intake manifold right behind the front covere.  Then there was a plug installed on the front cover next to the thermostat that I removed and installed a gauge sending unit.  Perhaps the 5.7 has something similar?
