AC vent removal need help
« on: July 24, 2014 - 01:46:11 PM »
How do you remove AC vents from a 70' Challenger dash without destroying them or the dash? Does anyone know of a video or have a good discription of how to do this?

Thanks

That is a bit tricky but can be done with the dash in. They have 2 screws on the backside

I'm sorry, but the only way I know is to remove the dashpad from the car and get at them from behind.

Do those screws come straight in from the back connecting with either side of the vent surround? Is it possible to get to the backside with a screw driver to do this?
At a later time I will need to remove the whole dash for pad restoration but would like to take center and pass vents out now if possible to repair/replace.

screws are at angle on Cuda's
remove  glove box door
move AC tubes from vents carefully. clips holding AC vent tubes to AC Vents.
use a mirror to locate the screws.
Hold the vent inplace when removing screws. Or have someone hold the vents inplace.
When installing  the AC vents HOLD ( PUSH)  THE VENTS WITH ONE HAND INPLACE AND INSTALL THE VENT TUBE TO THE BACK OF VENTS.
Forcing the tube onto the vent without holding the vent you could break or 'pop the screws from the vents screw pegs.

No fun lying on back sticking head between AC heater box to find the screws.
