Big block FI
« on: July 16, 2014 - 05:36:25 PM »
I know we have a lot of smart fellers on here, has anyone done a multi port fuel injection system on a 383 or 440?  I've been kicking around the idea lately of trying to junkyard crawl a system but wasn't sure if someone here had done it and knows where to start. Part of this idea is budget minded and the other part is trying to do something different.

Thanks.

Drew

Not much available from a wrecker , most engines are built with a 40 CI cylinder 440 has 56 or so so the injectors are typically too small , I built a 440 RR efi & used a list of parts from different suppliers , it works awesome  :2thumbs:

Thanks guys. The general idea that I have in my head is to find parts from junk yard cars and adapt them to work together. Maybe fuel rails from 2 4cyl cars that are the correct distances for the intake runners, possibly some big block chevy injectors (may have to just go new performance ones for this), and then the megasquirt computer. I know there is much more to it but that is just the basics that I am contemplating. I really have no expertise here, just more tinkering with the idea...I honestly have no problems running my carb and being stuck in the past, its comfy here

I built a system based on a 88-91 mustang 5.0 ecu with a programing board, sequential multiport mass air. It ran OK but never perfect I am not a tuner and did not spend the time to get it right, or spend the money for someone to tune it for me. I ended up converting to a FAST 2.0 multiport upgrade. It is self tuning and so far runs very good. If you are not willing to spend a lot of time tuning go with one of the newer systems. Otherwise anything is possible. If you are interested some of the key parts of the mass air system are for sale.
