Sorry, another dumb tire/wheel fitment question
« on: July 13, 2014 - 10:11:36 AM »
Okay Guys,  I have been reading threads trying to determine what size wheel / tire I can fit without any mods to the car.   The more I read, the more confused I get.  Here is what is on the car currently.  (by PO)

Front:  P215 70 R14  (Ralley wheel)  I do not know the width of this wheel.  Maybe 6 or 7 inchs.....looks stock.
Rear: P275 60 R15    (Ralley Wheel)  Again I do not know the width.  These are wider than the front but I do not know by how much.

Now, I want to keep the 14 up front with the 15 in the back.  I'm looking at the Crager S/S wheels (old school).  Now the back space on the front wheel (Crager) is listed as 3.375.   I believe the correct BS should be 4.50.  The question for the front will this move the tire into the wheel well or out some?  Would it look odd with this back space?  Will this interfere with the disk brake caliper?  I appears that there is plenty of room either way.

As for the rear, currently there is about an inch between the fender lip and tire as well as the tire and leaf spring,  Now the Crager 15 X 8 (which I understand should fit into the wheel well without a problem) has a BS of 4.125.  Can this work without issues?   I intend to stay with the same size tires that are currently on the car.   The rear tires need to be replaced but the front have very little wear.

Sorry, this may sound like a simple question to answer but I don't want to order something that I will have to return.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a great tool to compare side by side

You do need to know what you currently have.

Your fronts will move out a bit over an inch. Won't bother your calipers, as for fenders, you would have to see if you have room. With the suspension under compression with the wheels at full lock is the worst case for clearance.
Your rears would move out a bit. About 1/2". Check your lip to wheel clearance to see if you have the 1/2", I suspect it will be fine.
IMO, I would go with 15" all around though.
Personally, I went with 17" all around because you can only buy crap/non performance tires in the smaller (14" 15") sizes.

Great advice, I would check tire price and availability before you buy new rims.

Katfish, dodj,  Thanks for the info.  I will do some measuring on the front wheel wells.   Did not consider the "full lock position" issue......good point.    I will toy with the 15" for the front.   What I'm looking to achieve is this slight "rake"  not radical......just a pinch of old school.

Thanks again.   I will post again when I get the wheels.   As for the tires, I'll keep with same brand....BF Goodrich Radial TA.   But you make a good point......I have not checked on the availability of 14" tires.    Geezzzzzzzzzzz  what a headache!
