Side view mirror

Hey guys, hope your all well.
So...... I climb in the 70 cuda today to go for a ride to town, while backing it out of the shop I notice the glass is missing from my RH side view mirror. The guts and the glass are gone. I have no idea how these things are assembled. The mirrors are repro. Painted mirrors, so to replace the entire mirror requires buying a new mirror, buying paint and primer, so you can see this is going add up to several hundred dollars quickly. Hoping we get a good match on the paint as well. Does anyone on the site or elsewhere specially in mirror repair? Where would a guys get the guts for a side view mirror?

can't you just buy the mirror glass and replace it???

I can't just replace the mirror glass because the guts that go inside the mirror is gone also,  so there's nothing to mount the glass to. Buying a new mirror would replace the one I have for sure but I am still out a few hundred dollars for paint and paint labor( cause I don't paint) I am thinking I might buy a new mirror and use the guts from the new one to put in the one that's on the car. if anyone has any other ideas let me know.

why cant you buy a new mirror and take the guts out and put them in the painted housing? hundreds to paint and labor. Really?

You can transfer the mirror parts over but if the repo mirrors are built like original 70 passenger side mirrors you'll probably have to break the glass & have a new one cut....... The mirror pivot is pressed into a hole in the mirror body, if you don't break the glas you can't hit the pivot solidly to drive it into the mirror housing so the glass will fall out again & you'll be back where you are now....

Removing the mirror & stud from the housing is easy, a flat board laying on something solid, slap the mirror housing face down a few times & the mirror & pivot will come out..... Some guys are able to separate the glass by soaking it in lacquer thinner, if not break the glass.... A little metal bonding epoxy & drive the pivot into the housing.... Then glue the glass mirror back in...

Thanks R/T that's what I am thinking, you have been a big help. I can get all that done for under 100.00 I can do that for under 100.00 and not have to worry about the paint mismatching. Yes, DAVE several hundred dollars, paint is 800.00 a gallon, so by my hometown, backwoods math that's 200.00 for a quart. 75.00 for reducer and activator, 85.00 for the mirror and 100.00 for labor. Then I still have to deal with the paint match being dead on. SO, I think that adds up to several hundred dollars. But anyhoo, thanks guys.

I don't see were you need A quart of paint for one mirror!!!

I get it, unfortunately that's the smallest quantity my supplier will sell. That's always aggravated me but after 25 years of doing business with them, no other complaints.

I use Axalta formerly Dupont, And my guy will go as low as 8oz or half A pint. I am talking base coat though.
