what kind of antifreeze?
« on: July 22, 2014 - 05:11:23 PM »
Ok with new technology all around us what about antifreeze? With aluminum rad's , heads and intakes should we be using something different than the old green stuff? What about the GM "Dex cool" orange stuff? I read about it on the net causing head gasket issues?
Fill me in?.....

Brad, stay away from that pink junk! Prestone is good and just read the bottle for aluminum compatibility; they're virtually all good with it.  :2cents:

I just use Prestone green & not the 50/50 mix as why pay 80% of the cost when 1/2 is water ?
Antifreeze tech has kept up with alloy engines .
Long life red coolant never seems as good
the best option is probably Evan waterless but you need 4 jugs @ $40 / gallon

:iagree:  Yep.  That or Zerex green.  My grandad swore by Zerex.

I live in a warm environment. (South Texas). I prefer to use a corrosion inhibitor instead of antifreeze.
