360/727 kickdown linkage setup questions, pics attached

'Morning everybody,

Hope those of you that made it to Carlisle had an awesome time!  Hoping to join you next year!

I've finally gasketed and bolted my intake manifold back down and have everything pretty much reinstalled.

I've got a question about the kickdown/throttle linkage setup.

I didn't take great pictures of the before, but I feel like the rod that attaches to the carb was parallel.  Either the new intake (Edelbrock Performer RPM) sits too high or too low, but now the rod is at an angle.  Is that a problem?

So...I guess...does the kickdown/throttle linkage setup look right to you?  If not, what do I do to make it right?  I feel like this is the part of the job I didn't consider/plan for when I ripped the intake off.  It can't be incredibly difficult, I just don't know much about it yet.

While I'm at it, the brass colored fittings on the carb (what I've connected the throttle return spring to) seems to have moved while I was installing the spring.  It's not free moving, but it feels like its adjustable to two or three places and that it "clicked" to one of those other settings.  Carb had been exactly as I took it off the car, but when I went to attach the spring, the whole assembly sort of...shifted.

As always, thanks for all your help and for saving my butt time and time again :)

Hello Bob....

this "set up " will not work !  You need to lengthen the Kickdown rod /linkage...because the new intake ist highér than stock ....  to make it right,   you must messure the old intake vs the new one...the difference ist the length you have to add to the lnikage... ( weld in a piece of round stell or so... )

Concerning the  "klicks..   at your carb....  what you heard /felt was the  FAST Idle cam...  the cam has two or three steps...

This is what I did last year, page 3.

From what I read, you need to allow the throttle to return to the close position in case the AT throttle linkage is stuck. It is a safety issue. So the slot at the connecting bar needs to be lengthened and also at the right dimension to push the kick down back when car starts moving. Actually there are quite a bit of info on the site if you search. That was what I did last year.

You have the stop bolt in the slide in front of the linkage , you may need it behind to force the linkage all the way back @ WOT , you can use a spring to pull the linkage forward but generally not nessisary .
The Arm on the carb is just peened on & must be loose on the shaft , you can take a center punch & re peen it to tighten it on the shaft so it doesn't move .

I Just did the same thing on my 318 last year to repair the mistakes of the previous owner. I actually modified a throttle return bracket from a mopar van that was in the junkyard. You need to remove that bolt, get the correct spring and elongate the rod so the kickdown linkage can work properly. Once it's sitting right you can adjust the kickdown linkage near the trasnmission for the exact position.

Thanks everybody!

I was starting to suspect that the whole bracket/arm/to the carb assembly was a little suspect.  It moves left to right a little too much.

It's probably overkill, but I went for the Bouchillon kickdown kit.  I was going to buy the Lokar, but there were a lot of reviews here that made it seem that the BPE kit could be had for only a little more money and that its a much better unit.  Hopefully it'll be in this week.  I'm thinking I can reuse my throttle cable, but we'll find out when we get there I guess.

I'm anxious to get my Challenger running again.  But this isn't really setting me back, because I need to take the freaking intake off again.  Leaking from the front.  It's been one of those weeks   :bricks1:
