Brake booster question
« on: July 21, 2014 - 03:00:29 PM »
My 70 cuda originally came with manual brakes, but the previous owner upgraded to disc brakes using an MP brake booster, I am trying to install what I thought to be the correct brake booster but have run into a problem. The bolts on the booster don't line up with the holes in the fire wall. See the attached pictures. I have what I believe to be the correct booster plate as well, so I can't quite figure out what I'm missing here. CAn anyone shed some light on this situations?

It has to be from a different application , truck maybe , I have swapped to manual & to std brakes & everything will line up with the correct parts .

I can tell you exactly what happened.

From the picture you took of your firewall your car is setup for manual from the get go. You got a power booster that was meant to convert to power brakes, this booster will ONLY work on cars that have the power firewall setup.

I have a booster/master cylinder that will work on your car.

See in the image the bolts are closer together to go through your firewall.

 PM me for details.

Looks like you have the same bolt spacing that I do. Just shy of 3.5".

So you can remove your pedal assembly, cut off the studs, and drill out the rest and mount your Booster.

Or go back to manual.

The brake booster you have is correct. You have to remove the top studs in order to switch to power brakes. Try the measurement from the studs to the second hole from the bottom. :2cents:

Looks like that's what I'll be working on this weekend.

It becomes correct when you take out the studs and then drill out the housing.
