After body and paint you could be looking at 15k or more.I would say 80 hours in metal work and another 100 hours in priming, sanding,
and painting and polishing. To do it right it takes a lot of time.Supplies and paint will  cost you 1500 dollars. What will the car be worth when done? The reason these car are restored is because 75 percent  of owners do 90 percent of the work  themselves.I had 60k in my car.I did 90 percent of the work with the help of some good friends.I would talk to someone on this forum who knows your car inside and out to get a good idea at what you are looking at.

I think I'm going to invest in a welder, some body tools and look for classes in my area I can take and leverage a few friends knowledge. I'd rather spend my money and try to learn and do it myself, if I mess it up then I guess I'll have to pay someone. I'll take my time, how bad could I do  :dunno:

Anyone in the New Jersey area willing to share some expertise?

Maybe another way too look at it... (??) Have one area done first, lower rears for example. That will give you a taste for what all involved and way the costs can run up. This way your not breaking your bank and you can determine how to proceed in the future. Not many can go the "full boat" right out of the gate.  :smokin:

I think that's a great idea.

I bought all my own stuff and did my own metal work. Spot welding and butt welding will be the majority of work. Those are pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

If you wanted to; after you're done, you can sell your stuff on Craigslist.
I just sold a bunch of stuff. Including here.

thats a great plan  :2thumbs:  you either pay someone to do it for you or you pay to learn. Personally, I love to learn new stuff.

I agree with doing the work yourself. I do all of my work now, thanks to a very bad experience at a "body shop".

I think the only part I'm going to outsource would be the rust around the rear window, I really don't want to mess with that and I got a good quote on just that section. Everything else I'll attack myself.

Does anyone know of a source for the rear lower quarter patch panels? I only see patches available for infront of the rear tire, not behind.
