hood pin without cable?
« on: August 05, 2014 - 08:46:27 AM »
Looking to pull the trigger on a AMD RT hood real soon. I'm tossed between one with the hood pin cutouts or without. I like the hood pins for purely the cosmetic appeal as I intend to keep my stock latching system intact. Can you run the hood pins without the cable; just the clip through the pin locking it into place? I don't like the idea of the cable rubbing against the paint, I've seen some cars with wear in this area.

No problem , you just need to make sure you put the clips in the same place so you do not lose tham , I often set them on the pins [not through] when the hood is open

I thought the cables came with clear plastic insulation so it wouldn't scratch the paint.
If not, you could purchase the coated cable and make your own.

My cables tend to rise slightly off the leading edge of the hood as the air flows around them when moving. So far I have no marks on the hood trim or headlight bezel.

Thanks for the replies guys. I like that I'd have the option to run with or without the cables

I'm going for the hood pins, I love the look

I run mine without the cables, just put them in my back pocket at car shows and like others have said, leave them around the pins when working in the garage....

I like the look with the cables, and yes they are coated so it does not scratch the paint.

Our's were originally flopping around on the hood and causing a scuff.  Now we tuck the cable in the hood crack, and the loop under the hood snugs into the forward lip of the hood.
