Switch to Ralley Dash - Challenger 70
« on: June 09, 2014 - 08:14:22 AM »
Hi, I got a non-ralley dash Challeger 1970 and now I want to swap it to a Ralley Dash! Is that possible or do I need new harness and stuff like that?

Please advice!

yes  it is possible , there are a few wires that need to be extended & you need to add the signal wire for the tach & make a power wire as well but easy to do

You will need a constant power source for the clock, and a switched power source for the tachometer.

You will need a Rally dash light bar, and switch panel. Also, the heater panel will have to be changed.

This can be done, but the biggest hurdle is cost. Rally gauge parts are not cheap.

Something else to keep in mind. The 1970 Challenger light bar is unique to that car, if you're really particular. !970 - 74 Barracuda and 1971 - 74 Challenger are all the same. The first 2 pics are the '70 Chally only, the last 2 pics are of all the others. I had both types and just recently sold the '70 Challenger only one.

I also forgot to add that you will need to swap out your oil pressure sending unit. The one for the dash light won't work with the Rally gauges.

When you start looking around for a dash.... If you want to do it right and only have to install the dash one time, price gauge clusters from suppliers that have already converted the gauges to modern movements. Or you could do like I have and had the dash out 3 times because the reproduced originals screwed up just like the originals did.  :pullinghair:

I performed this on my '71 Chall years ago and concur with all the above statements with one exception to what MEK-D mentioned about the light bar. At the time, I didn't even know there was a different bar so I just re-used my non-ralley bar and it worked just fine.
The illumination misalignment is negligible and, being as the bar is not really visible, the only one that will ever know is you. and possibly a concourse judge but if one of those is looking, the whole cluster is wrong anyway so a moot point. ;)
So, if you're in a pinch and can't find or afford the ralley light bar, you can certainly get away with using your original.
