Alternator Big red wire direkt to Batterie ?
« on: August 15, 2014 - 06:26:11 AM »

In my 70 Challenger is all original unter the Hood. He have the original Alternator with external Regulator.
The Big +14 Volt Cable go to the Instrument Panel and then to the Battarie.
The Ampermeter i have disconnect because the cable was hot near the Ampermeter.
I will not burn the Dash with that hot + 14 Volt Wire.
It is possible to Route the Big + 14Volt Cable direkt from the Altornator (with external Regulator) to the Batterie?
Or is a One wire Alternator needed for this Application?
Regards Andy

I ran a heavy wire from the alternator lug to the battery to bypass the amp gauge ( sort of) Works for me.

It will work with either 1 wire or 3 wire alt , just run a heavy 10ga or bigger wire from the alt output to the bat terminal on the start relay

You are just adding a parallel circuit, not removing the original dash feed. Although I would recommend disconnecting your ammeter  and connecting the two ammeter wires together.

 :iagree:
the dash feed is through the fusable link from the start relay , into the bulkhead connector to the start switch & ammeter
