SCCA CAM Invitational to be held during Pro Solo Finale in Lincoln Neb.
 - Sports Car Club of America and Speedway Motors, Inc., of Lincoln, Nebraska are teaming up to present The Speedway Motors Classic American Muscle Invitational Challenge. The Invitational will bring the best muscle cars, across all platforms, and drivers to the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Finale, Aug. 30-31, at the Lincoln Airpark in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The ProSolo format combines elements of autocross and drag racing. Competitors, staged side-by-side, will face a drag racing-style Christmas tree start before entering mirror image autocross courses. This provides the unique opportunity to put autocross, drag racing and hot rods on the same stage at the same time.
The invite list will be a who’s who of hot rod Soloists from across the country, battling for prizes from Speedway Motors. The competition will take place Sunday afternoon between the class competition and Challenge rounds of the ProSolo event. After familiarization runs on the course, drivers will be placed into a bracket and compete through elimination rounds until only one remains as the Top Eliminator.
“When I first began to autocross part of the excitement for me was seeing not only the classic British sports cars, but also the great muscle cars of the day battling it out on the same course,” Howard Duncan, SCCA VP, Rally/Solo, said. “The Speedway Motors Classic American Muscle Class Invitational Challenge, along with the running of the CAM class at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships, will once again bring back that excitement as the improved versions of these traditional muscle cars show their capabilities on the same courses used by the current crop of sports cars and sport coupes. It should be a great show!”
In addition, these drivers will be invited to participate in the inaugural running of the CAM class at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championship event, held later in the week at the same location. CAM class runs will come on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 2-3. The event is the world’s largest motorsports competition, featuring more than 1,100 drivers in competition over four days.
SCCA CAM class rules will be utilized for each event. Invitations will be sent to drivers that have shown the potential for high-level competition through a variety of events across the country. The invitations and RSVPs will be organized by SCCA’s Raleigh Boreen and are expected to be sent in early August.
For more information or to request an invite, contact Raleigh at rvboreen@gmail.com.

Scott/Moparman -- T/Anks for helping promote this inagural event.... I personally know the group of guys that developed the CAM rules.  It'll be interesting to see the "who's who" entry list.  I used to attend the SCCA Solo Nationals for many years (Salina, KS, Topeka, KS) with my T/A... running F/Stock, then later in the E/SP class (from late 70s through ~2001).   Great event (Guniess records, I believe), great comroderity amongst fellow autocrossers and competitors.

Reporting on the CAM class challenge. My son and I entered with our 70 challenger. Had a blast running the PRO-SOLO course. Lot's of GOOD fast muscle cars,1 corvette, 1 original bodied cobra and a few new gen. camaro and mustangs. My son time trialed 4 fastest in CAM-T as for me I was a little farther behind. Unfortunatly we had to race on partial wet track (first time ever) so its my excuss  ha ha and I slid thru a corner outside of cone and got a DNF. My son was running good but unfortunatly he went on the wrong side of a cone to start the slalom portion and was DNF as well... he was only .200 off of his competitor with the right side to run which was the side that everyone was making up time! All in all it was a great time, met alot of people that have been doing this along time helping us out. The best was when the driver that my son was racing heard him talking about messing up the slalom and only being .200 off and was noticable upset about it told him and I quote " don't you be upset about being behind by .200, I have been doing this for 42 years so you did real well". Stuff like that can make a weekend!! We will be back!
The interest and buzz around this race was crazy. People lined up all over to watch the challenge, more so than the other classes, even the regulars commented on the amount of people wathcing!.

Crewchief -- Great to hear from you and the FUN FUN FUN you and your son had ... AND.. I wholeheartedly appluad you for racing your Challenger!!!   I look forward to someday meeting you and your son... favorably at an autocross event.

IF you can make it ot the Chicago area, on the weekend of OCT 4/5, 2014, at the Joliet Autobahn, there will be a final season hi-speed autocross on the 2.0 mile South track.  SAT morning there will be hi-speed lapping (HPDE) of each group getting 3 20-minute lapping sessions, then on the afternoon, there will be HSAX competition runs (about 6~9 runs, 1-flying hot lap and a cool down lap).. I'll be competing in that SAT event.

On Sunday, Oct 5, I'll be the official "Pace Car" for the approximate 6 wheel-to-wheel road races (each race ~30 minutes).

For more info, contact me, or else... www.mcscc.org  for the schedule and entry forms (entry form will be posted in a ~couple days from today).   (Note: Sat HPDE morning session $130, afternoon HSAX $50... but $ fee must include the morning session, as well; afternoon is optional.. but well worth it.)

I'd love to see more MOPARS becoming active in autocross ... pylon evebnts and/or road course events.   Let's make it a "show" and meet up!
