Dash/crashpad removal - need some help.
« on: April 25, 2005 - 03:58:23 AM »
G'day guys, spent most of the afternoon trying to get the crashpad of my 70 barracuda but had to give up once it got dark.  I have found 11 of the pressed reatiner nuts and the screws at either end.  Could someone confirm how many of these little suckers there are so I Know how many more to search for.  Did a search and one of the guys said 12 or 13 but would like to know for sure.  Any diagrams would be great also.  Thanks.

Just got done putting mine back in.  There are 11.  The diagram below is looking down through the dash.

   X            AC Vent            X           AC Vent               X

                   X                Speaker             X
  X              X         X          X     Ashtray    X     GloveBox  X

              Steering Wheel

The 3 nearest the windshield are the hardest to get to.

Thanks for that - Ok so I have all 11 removed but it wouldn't come out (wasn't forcing at this stage), so which way do you have to remove it - lift, roll forward, release front then rear etc????

Make sure you also remove the philips head screws that are in both sides at the ends near the doors.  There are also screws to the plastic trim around the gauges.  You may also want to loosen / remove the AC duct in the center.  This will hold the dash down.  The trim pieces along both pillars should be removed.

Once all this is done it should pop up with some gentle tugging.

Not real sure about this, but I still had trouble at that point, I had to remove the two nuts located by the stearing colum???? Rich.

Watch out for the windsheild. wiggleing the dash back and forth with the glue from the bottom of
the windsheild stuck to the pad can crack the glass.
