Washing a car with hot water?
« on: September 21, 2014 - 09:36:36 PM »
Opinions on this? I remember reading about a guy with an MG in a Popular Mechanics with over 800,000 miles that attributed its "like new" appearance to regular hot water washes. I think it might be the best way to remove any possible corrosives, like salt.

Tried it once connecting hose to my water heater....that was a big mistake, had grey crap all over & had to re-wash.
Might be OK out of a regular faucet.

Only info I have even close to this (I wash the car with cold) is seeing a guy throw a bucket of hot water at his frozen over windshield in winter time. He could definitely see afterwards lol, no more windshield.

Ive used warm water before, cant comment on damage however, warm soapy water has got to help lift road grime i would have thought, does with washing etc  :dunno:

Hot water will leave a film over the paint surface. I can see using hot water to wash then rinse with cold.

Hot water will wipe out any wax you have on the car.Wax is what protects your car.Imo washing a car with hot water is overkill.Keeping your car waxed is the best way to protect it from the elements.

Me too. Soap is more effective in warm water. As for taking off the wax, i'm not boiling it before using, just warm.
