swap 70 rally gauges into a 72?
« on: September 25, 2014 - 11:22:55 PM »
I have a 72 challenger with NON rally gauges. My friend has a former drag car (70 challenger) with rally gauges. I want his rally gauges in my 72. Will they fit directly in or will I need the whole dash frame too? I've held the woodgrain plastic behind my steering wheel and it doesn't seem like it will fit correctly.

Thanks for any input.

I seem to recall hearing that the dash frame itself is the same for 70-74 but I couldn't say on the column and any trim around that area. My guess is they will work but I'm still learning the E bodies myself. Hopefully someone knows for sure.

Should be a direct swap as far as fitment, but you'll need to modify the dash harness to work with the new gauge cluster.  You'll also need to run a wire from the coil to the tach, along with a 12V source to power the tach.

You should work with me on this.  I have a 72-74 rallye cluster and a 71 car.  I was trying to make the 72-74 unit look correct.  We should talk trade...
