Door glass adjustment
« on: May 28, 2014 - 10:35:12 PM »
So I've been pulling my hair out for days trying to adjust my drivers door glass. Both quarters and the passenger side went smoothly
but the drivers side just won't line up. The top rear of the glass tips out about 3/16", I have an extra vertical glide but assume everything is the same. The original is from a 72 barracuda and the spare is from a 71. Could be an issue? Anyone have suggestions? I really need to get
this fixed before I can go much further with the assembly process. Help please!!!
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Is it possible that the front adjustment is off causing the problem with the rear ?

This winter I found that a very small amount of adjusting in one place, made big changes in other places.

I have the exact same problem on my challenger.  rear tips out a little bit and the whole window seems to be about a 1/4 inch to far towards the back edge of the door.  no adjustments help at all.   :swear:

Decided to remove the glass last night to get a better look.  Once I unhooked the window from the regulator the regulator sprang out wide near the spring part. Apparently the pressure of the bent/broken regulator on the glass was the only thing making the regulator look straight. So the regulator was pushing excessively outward on the glass.  New regulator and hardware kit on order.  When the parts arrive, will stuff it all back in and see what happens.

okay people. some advice here would be appreciated.  Got in my new regulator and window hardware kit.  Going to start installing it all.  Question is I had to remove the the front  vertical guide to get the glass out of the door. Reversing the process I assume I put the front vertical guide back in first with just the lower screw holding it loosely so as to tip the top of the guide "in" a little bit to put the rollers on the window back in the guide.  And after its all shoved back together then I put the top screw in the vertical guide and start adjusting for proper roll up fit?  I can see of no other way to do it and want to make sure I am not missing the obvious.

That's not how I do it.

I have everything in the door with the exception of the glass and the front vertical track.

I slide the vertical track on to the glass, then put the whole works into the door.  As it goes in....hook the rear vertical track and carefully lower the glass all the way in. Then bolt up the horizontal track and roll it up slightly to bolt the bottom of the front track down. Then roll the window up and secure the top of the front track.

That makes better sense.  So do I have to remove the chrome/rubber molding on the top of the door to make more room to stuff it back in?

That's one thing that I did wrong.  I had to fight the glass because the window fuzzies were already installed.  I found out after, that if you leave the rubber stop off the bottom of the door, the glass will slide down more.  That lets you screw on the window fuzzies after the glass is in.

installed new regulator and hardware kit.  glass now rolls up straight BUT it sits about 3/16 of an inch too far towards the back of the door  :pullinghair:.  The front part of the glass almost touches the rubber seal and the rear part of the glass rubs a little bit on the rear 1/4 glass window.  Only thing I can surmise is that the rear vertical channel needs to move forward a little bit.  The C Guide that bolts to the back of the glass is not adjustable. Does anyone know if that rear vertical channel can be moved forward just a touch?  I know the front vertical channel is slightly adjustable but don't know about the back vertical channel. Either I'm drinking too much or not enough when trying to figure this out.   :drunk:

The fore and aft adjustment is made by moving that small center track up or down :2cents:

appreciate all your advice.  Finally got it all lined up.  The fore aft adjustment alone wouldn't do it.  The fore aft adjustment just seemed to kick the window tilt a little farther outside the body when rolled up.  Took another look and saw the front vertical guide is slotted at the top with thin square nut slotted in it.  That nut was stripped and would hold till you rolled up the glass then the whole vertical rail would slide backwards. Used a longer bolt and added a nut behind the stripped one and shoved it all forward and tightened it down and. Works great and now lines up.  After that the fore aft adjustment got it dead on.   Thanks again for the help.

Dont forget the upper moulding is also adjusteable behind the weatherstrip? Also when window hits stops it tilts the glass! The quarter glass also has alot of adjustment?
