6x9 rear deck speakers
« on: December 05, 2014 - 12:56:41 AM »
I'm looking at these speakers to mount in the rear deck of my 70 Cuda.  Pioneer TS-A6995R 6"x9" 5-way car speakers
My question is whether I can mount them under the package tray without the speaker grills?   In the pictures it looks like the tweeters may protrude above the rest of the speaker?
thanks for your help

I can't speak specifically to these speakers fit but if you get then & they are an issue spacers are available.

I've had speakers that came with thicker spacers that I moved to new ones to solve issues.

Good suggestion and thanks for the link.
I believe I would have to mount them from the bottom in order for the package tray to fit correctly.

You can purchase angled adapters that slant your speakers more toward the interior - instead of just firing up onto the rear glass. These will effectively drop your speakers enough to eliminate the protruding small speakers from sticking up.
They mount from underneath your package tray, and the speaker mounts onto them.
Don't really know if it helps sonically, but will give you added space.

Some people mount them from the top down, over the package tray. Looks clean if the speaker includes a nice grille and of course you don't care about the non-stock look.

I've made spacers like your talking about out of mdf and they've worked well. It does make mounting them somewhat of a pain since you're juggling the speaker, spacer, trying to line up a screw through those into the panel while laying down in the trunk...oh and don't forget longer screws...yea I've done this :walkaway:
