Door Hinges
« on: October 11, 2014 - 03:50:56 PM »
I'm working on my brother's Challenger. The drivers side door hinge is shot. Should I get the door hinge rebuilt or buy the new reproductions? What would you guys do? I'm going to do both sides because I don't want to take this car apart again for this problem even though the passenger side is not bad.

Money is not a factor since my brother is paying for the parts and he said I should do whatever is easiest for me. I just worry whenever I buy a repro part. Sometime they don't work that well and are of a much cheaper quality than original factory parts. Of course sometimes the opposite is true.

I agree do it yourself.  There are a couple of threads on here showing you how to do it.  I did mine and it was well worth the effort.  Or go to one of the suppliers, and pay around $150 each for rebuilt hinges.

Thanks for the replys.

Yeah, that's what I did my car. It worked out good but one of them squeaks. That's getting fixed this winter.

I got the hinges out yesterday and after looking them I decided to buy the new ones. The little round things on the bottom hinge had flat spots on them. This is on both the left and right sides. The round things on the lower RH hinge are seized up. The S spring has a big cut in it. I ordered the new hinges from Classic Industries. The salesman says they have been very well received.

Thanks again.
