318 heads
« on: September 29, 2014 - 11:55:55 PM »
Ok, getting ready for the mopar fall fling parts swap in a few weeks. I love scouring for cool stuff. This year, I'm gonna hunt for a set of good heads for a friends 318 and could use a bit of advice. Really want to stick with iron vs aluminum.

I see some posts mention 302 and 308 heads. I assume that is the last three of a casting number? Are there even better ones to look out for? What about 340 heads? Will they fit?

Also, this swap meet is like a bunch of kids at a candy shop. No time to dally. What are some things to look for to speed my search (Open chambers vs closed, valve size, etc). Any way to avoid cracked or junk ones?

Thanks!

The 308 is the bet flowing casting for the LA small block , with some port work it can be a 50 HP bolt on , 40 RWHP on the dyno we used swapping from X heads

Cool, I'll look for them at the show. Hopefully I can find a set at the right price. What is a good price for a pair that need rebuilding?

going to bring this back up for just a second.

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of what cars these came on? and I understand the casting number ends in 308 where on the heads can I find this number? as for the springs, rockers and rods what needs to be changed over my current stock 318 valvetrain?

Aren't the 308's the ones that are prone to cracking?
