Crate h.p. ratings...
« on: October 29, 2014 - 09:43:34 PM »
ATK advertises in Classic Industries' Mopar catalogue. They have a stock bore/stroke 440 (I think around page 396), with Edelbrock heads and intake and a hydraulic cam that is rated at 520 h.p.  How can that be?!  What am I missing?

seems reasonable, those heads flow pretty well I think.
that's probably peak hp at around 6000 rpm.
It is said that making hp equal to 1.25 times the displacement of an engine, with just
common performance add-ons, is easy to do.

So, you got 500 cu in, then say hello to 625 hp!

72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Hp is ambiguous , different dynos read differently , we used to beat up 500 hp chevys with 400 hp 440s so this sounds optomistic to me , we gained exaclty 3 hp with Eddy heads over ported factory iron heads on a dyno . they are probably rating in Shetland pony HP not Clydesdales  :smilielol:

That's funny; Shetland pony HP vs Clydesdales.
1963 Dodge M37 (3)
1967 Dodge WM300 (2)
1971 Plymouth Duster
Bought new in '71; I wanted the Challenger but they were $2850; too much $ so I got the 318, 3 speed on the floor, Twister Duster for $2100.
1973 Plymouth Barracuda
I ain't done yet.
