Question about my casting date on motor for 70 Challenger
« on: April 26, 2005 - 05:09:58 PM »
i received a 383HP motor with my car when I bought my 70 RT/SE.     The block shows a casting date of 6 11 69  ...... the casting number on the block on the sides read 2468130  11.    Down along adjacent to the oil pan where serial numbers go it reads  9G or perhaps 9C304743.   What confuses me is the stamping on the pad on top of the block....     E383
                                                                 6  30  2
                                                                       HP

Why would a block casted on 6/11/69 not be assembled until a year later........   If I am remembering correctly the  6  30  2  means sixth month  2nd day of 1970.    Appreciate your input.....

Lemme try and pick these as i know them...

Of course the block casting date is 6 11 69

Stamping on the block:  E (1969) 383 (383)   6 (month = June)  30 (day = 30)  2 (number engine built that day)

                                                HP (High Performance)

According to the pad on top of the block, it's the second engine built on June 30, 1969 and is a High Performance 383

"How to Rebuild Big Block Mopar Engines"  by Don Taylor lists the casting number for '59-'71 383s as 2568130 so 2468130 is close enough for me. The 11 after it i would guess indicates the 11th block cast. I believe that on what day it was cast is contained in the 9G or 9C304743.

Hope this helps a bit

that block seems weird , if it wa cast in June [6]on the 11th day but stamped E it was installed in a 69 car & the high # confirms this so the block was cast & used in approx 6 weeks or less which is much faster than normal
the HP is a Magnum engine but it was never in you Chall originaly

I have a 440 HP block in my '69 Charger R/T that was cast in early August 1969 and has 1971 VIN numbers and G code stamping.
