Gran Coupe Interior Panel Insert Color
« on: April 08, 2004 - 07:50:10 PM »
I have a 70 Gran Coupe with woodgrain interior panel inserts. I just recently acquired some with red. What gives? all I have seen have woodgrain. Does anyone know where the red came from? Is it rare, for a particular car? What? Any help would be great. BTW, still need woodgrain for rear passenger side. Thanks!

A good friend used to own this 70 Gran Coupe. It was a fully loaded two tag car. Hope this helps some...

Hey onefornow thanks for the info, it looks like your friends Gran Coupe was red with a red interior is that correct? I am starting to see a pattern, although I am not sure if it just was used with red interior cars or now. Thanks a bunch!

Sometime before my friend bought it the color was changed to this candy looking grape. Does look red though. Originally this was an In-Violet car. The door panels are black with the red accent continuing to the rear panels and the seats were houndstooth cloth/vinyl. Glad i could help.

...and another. Possibly the cloth and vinyl interiors received the red accenting as the seat borders match the door panels. The cloth inserts don't match front to back although i was told it's original.

I know this is an old post but thought I'd add. My '70 GC also came w/red trim & houndstooth seats. the previous owner ripped out the red trim because he didnt like it in the yellow car. He did away with the houndstooth interior and covered the headliner/OHconsole in black vinyl. Anyone have the red trim for sale? If I could find this i'd go back to the houndstooth seats. The overhead warning lights never worked in the car I think the last owner told me he didnt put the harness back in. I'm hoping when I get ready to disassemble the interior the wiring will be there. I have never dropped the headliner because it feels like they may have stapled the console to the headliner and I know this will be a job to repair.
