Brake pads
« on: April 10, 2016 - 04:07:55 PM »
I've had Wilwood front discs on my Cuda for 10 years.
Is there a brake pad out there that is supposed to give the best stopping power?
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Wilwood makes a large variety of pads so "best" is a contingency based on application. Street, drag, oval track, and road race all require differing compounds and performance criteria for friction, dust, rotor wear, and temp tolerance. Wilwood has 14 differing compounds.  I'd recommend a call to their tech line to discuss your driving to see what they recommend would work best for your specific requirements.

 :iagree:
for drag racing you want a pad that works best dead cold for example as the heat cycles are far apart time wise , but in autocross  or road racing you want a pad that will work best hot

OK, spoke with Wilwood, and they have a brake pad for their Ebody front spindles,
that bites harder when warmed up, than the pads my setup came with.  They said
they will not stop as well when discs are cold, but will bite after a couple normal brake
episodes. They also said I may see a little more brake dust.  But, for $80, may be
cheap insurance.

OK, took the car out with the new front pads. Definite improvement in stopping power!
Recommend you get these, or an equivalent for whatever braking system you have.
