WIW Gator Grain Vinyl Top
« on: December 03, 2014 - 08:54:34 PM »
I bought a Gator Grain vinyl top at the mopar nats in 88 I believe, myabe 89, hard to remember exactly.  It was in a flat box, I figured it was an original container for it, but no mopar part number on the box.  It is the entire top, plus extra pieces.  I am not able to post pictures, and really don't want to dig it out anyway.  I have it safe and in a dry area, it's still perfect and brand new after all these years.  I had a V1G car that I was going to restore and ended up selling it and all my stuff off in 93, but kept this top and a Dodge rim blow steering wheel along with some other small bits and pieces I hope to use on my current project.
I'm not really wanting to sell it, just trying to see what it's worth today?  I paid a ton for it back then, but I'm guessing there are repo's out there now and it's not worth didly.  Any insight would be appreciated!

I guess it doesn't matter that this isn't a reproduction?  Kind of hard to prove I guess.  Should have sold it back in the 90's. lol.  At least it's worth close to the 1200 buck mark?

Sorry, been covered up with family stuff and then PRI show.  I will dig it out and let you know.  Not able to post pics as I don't have a hosting currently, but I'll see what I can do.

There are no markings under the vinyl top. Did check that out.

With no markings on the box, or no markings on the backside of the material, I would say it's pretty hard to determine what you actually have. Whether or not it's an original Chrysler NOS piece or some kind of early reproduction would play into it's current value :2cents: Would be nice to put it side by side by side with an original one still on a car and today's reproduction one.

That would be very cool to see a comparison of the three era's.

I would think honestly in the 8-9 hundred range for a perfect one.
Remember that there are some warranties and protections when purchasing a part through someone like Legendary.

Is the condition perfect? OR as new?

Perfect, never been out of the box till I pulled it out to check to see if there were any markings. I bought it at the 1987 mopar nats and no one had reproduced them before that to my knowledge.  I bought it because I had an RT SE V code car at the time that had the V1G on the tag, all I have left of it is this top unfortunately.  Should have sold it years ago, guess I missed the boat holding my head under the sand, lol.  Maybe I'll just use it on my current car, or hold onto it for a while longer, it doesn't eat anything.
