AAR 4 wheel disc conversion
« on: December 09, 2014 - 04:48:45 PM »
Any one out there want to weigh in on the best 4 wheel disc conversion to upgrade the brake system on my AAR.
The one caveat is that it would have to be reversable IE: no body, frame, suspension mods.
Just in the unlikely event that I ever sell the car, I would not want to do a permanent modification.
But the car was made to drive, so I am toying with putting 17" Rallye's on it and the factory brakes are somewhat marginal with bigger meats as I understand.

Finesse asked the 'Cuda out to dinner once, but the 'Cuda stood it up to go drink beer under an overpass with her hot little sister. As far as this car is concerned, finesse can go stuff itself."

I like Wilwood, but it's pretty pricey  :2cents:

I went with the DrDiff kit as it was the only one I knew of that you could still use the stock bearing set up. It was a complete bolt it no mods

Hey Alan,
I went on Wilwood's website and couldn't find a listing for a 1970 Cuda.
Do you have a SKU for the kit you use? Also if you get a chance take a look at my fenders on my rest thread and tell me what you think.

Thanks Brad I will check out the DR Diff kit as well.

Greg

Not sure on the fenders...that's why I didn't comment...There's always different engineering changes throughout the model year, so you never know.

Alan,
Appreciate the link and the feedback.
Do you know if that kit fits the existing front spindle i.e.: disc brake spindle? It sounds from the description that it is for drum conversion front and rear or are they the same?
I guess I can call Wilwood and check, it.s not like I am doing the brakes anytime soon! :bricks1:

The fender deal is weird, but since it has no rust and you can't see the differences when assembled I figure I use it!
Thanks again, you ever get down NorCal way let me know & I'll by you a beer or 3 :drunk:

NO...From what I understand they DO NOT have a kit that fits the 70-71 disc brake spindle. They have a kit for 72-74 disc brake and a kit for 70-74 drum brake.

It's pretty easy to find drum brake spindles :2cents:

Hey Brad,
What brake setup from Dr. Diff did you use?
Did you go 13 front 11.75 rear or the 10.95 front 10.7 rear, and did you use there Master Cyl?
They look like they have the most turnkey setup, just need to decide which way to go.
How do you like the product overall?
Thanks,
Greg

I used my own custom front set up and the rear 10.7 kit was from DrDiff. Also got a M/C from him too. Worked great Zero issues! :2thumbs:

For the front why not go with Dr diff Viper conversion. You need 73-76 a body drum spindles that the kit works with and you need discs anyway so they have to be 73 c body units.. I got discs with grooves in them. Don't recommend cross drilled unless you are paying for high high quality discs which companies don't make products for us. Gen 1 Viper Calipers run about $200 or so on eBay. Rear? Just use the Dr diff 10-3/4" disc setup.

I got Wilwoods for mine, (70 Challenger) you can see the exact setup in my resto thread, link below. I had front discs also so I got used drum spindles that I'm gonna use. Saving all the stock parts.
Also got the green bearings for the rear axle.
