1970 Cuda trunk paint finish.
« on: November 12, 2014 - 04:36:44 AM »
Hi guys, my first ever post as I have just joined the site and based in the UK so hope you can help.

Although my car is going through some serious resto and has been painted in it's original burnt orange colour nicely by its previous owner, I have a question about the trunk (boot) finish. I'm guessing here but I would imagine that from factory potentially no lacquer would have been applied in the trunk but also wonder what would have been painted in there as well.

I've seen plenty of restored cars with perfect trunks which is great but maybe not factory. On the passenger side of the trunk there is a couple of pipes towards the inner rear wheel arch (fuel vent/breather I believe) which are painted and the car still shows lots of factory sealant.

My question is would this pipe work have been fitted after or before paint and should it be painted, same goes for the trunk torsion rods as well, anyone have any pics of an original trunk with paint?

Cheers guys...

The trunk compartment should be painted completely in body colour. The pipes would have gone in after paint and should have no signs of paint on them.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Thanks guys, always worth checking the production process as there can be anomalies from time to time.

Does this mean that the trunk would also have been lacquered or left unfinished in body colour?

Cheers,
