Wanted Slap Stick(got one from Moparparts)
« on: November 21, 2014 - 11:31:44 PM »
I'm looking for a 70 Slap Stick shifter assembly, nice chrome, no rust w/slider plate. P O changed mine to a T handle I would like to get the correct one back on the car. I think the shifter assemblies are interchangeable, anyone know any different?

P M me if you have one you would want to let go.

Personally, I would buy a new shifter plate from BE&A. The original ones are always pitted. The new ones are bolted together instead of being riveted. You need to grind the rivets off the old one so you can reuse the bottom half of it.

anlauto, have you ever purchased one from PG Classic or have had any experience with one?  I'm wondering what the quality is like, I think they are made in China.

I have one here right now I bought for my AAR Cuda.
The wood grain is inaccurate at best. The mechanism looks really nice and seems to work well. Keep in mind I have NOT installed it in the car yet and I don't know the longevity of the product. YES it's made in China and is the same product other vendors like BE&A are selling. :2cents:

The shifters themselves can be interchanged. The upper rod is slightly different from a 70 to a 71-74 even though they used the same part number but they do interchange. The 70 vertical torque shaft is different than the 71-74 and the lower trans rod and trans lower bracket is different as well. You can use the 71-74 torque shaft in conjunction with the 71-74 lower rod and 71-74 trans bracket on a 70 but then you would not be able to connect up the reverse lock-out if you are going to install it. What will not work correctly is using a 71-74 vertical torque shaft with a 70 lower rod and 70 trans bracket or using a 70 vertical torque shaft and 71-74 lower trans bracket with a 71-74 lower rod. Yes i know these pieces have been mixed up over the years and some get them to work (heat/cut/bend/weld) but that is why the shafts and other components wear prematurely and do not adjust correctly or bind. I do have a few 70 Shifters here but the chrome was not real good on them from the factory so it is not perfect now after all the years. PM or e-mail me if your interested
