If you truely want the "OEM" look, then you're done. Mount them get some orange overspray on them and away you you go....It will be about a week before they look like rusted crap. :2cents:

If you prefer not to have rusted crap, listen to what roadman5312 has to say :worshippy

Can you do the coating yourself or have to send it out?

Ceramic coating is similar to powder coating, prep, apply powder, bake at high temp. Best left to a professional.  :2cents:  :2thumbs:

Thanks guys.  I think I will just leave them alone and go with the "rusted crap" look.   I don't think they came from the factory with any paint and just "cure" on their own.

OEM is definitely what I am after.

So then the engines were painted with the exhaust manifolds bolted on?  That would leave some areas of the heads and block beneath the manifolds with little or no engine paint, right?

How much does this coating usually cost? A rough guess or range.

I pay $150.00 for manifolds and shorty headers, $180-$200 for long tube headers.

This was posted in January on another site.  I think it's worth looking into.  I've got another set of manifolds I could test this out on.  I've heard of soaking them in gear oil but this was the first time I'd heard of using auto trans fluid.

Quote
To remove rust I soak manifolds in mild murautic acid solution, then I wash them good with water. I dry them with flame heat from a torch, when cool I soak the outside of the manifolds with automatic trans at least twice, after it soaks in the 2nd time I turn the torch on them to warm them up good, this allows the trans fluid to soak even deeper into the cast iron. The first few miles they smoke but that soon stops
The set on my 68 Coronet R/T is rust free after 10 years and 5 thousand miles.

If you want to try a paint, I've heard people have had good results with Seymour Cast Blast high temp.  It's the same stuff Eastwood sells under their label.

cleaned them and painted with the Eastwood high temp paint, had them on the Cuda for couple months until I got my headers re-coated and put them back on.
