Need to locate factory rivets for 70 Challenger grill
« on: February 02, 2008 - 10:34:14 AM »
My 70 Challenger grill has returned from the anodizers, and I have it held together temporarily with nuts and bolts. Does anyone know where I can get the original factory rivets? I'm not sure rivets is the right word, as they don't seem to be regular rivet gun type of fasteners. Thanks.

I assume you are talking about the rivets that hold the various pieces together.  They are not pop rivets that you can buy at Autozone.  McMaster Carr or MSC Direct has them.  You also need the special tool.  See page 3229 on the online catalog for McMaster Carr.

I am also in the middle of my own DIY '70 Challenger Grill resto and will need the rivets for assembly.  I Googled Pete Bloather and Pete's Resto, but got nothing (by the way, I'm in SoCal).  I don't think the kit at TotallyAutoInc contains the rivets, just the mounting hardware.  This place ( http://www.hansonrivet.com/ ) should have the rivets and the tool.  Just need to know the exact size and type.

Did you ever find the rivets and the tool? I'm restoring mine and can't find anyone who successfully found them yet.

I bought these 1/8 x 3/16 semi tubular rivets to attach lenses onto a rallye light bar.

I took a couple to my friend's who is also working on a '70 Challenger grille and we test fitted them. He seemed to think they'd work.
I also had to buy a 1/8 rivet clincher to flatten them.
