Hellcat Torque
« on: January 05, 2015 - 04:12:00 PM »
I'm reading the new Car and Driver on the new Charger 4-Dr Hellcat (weighs 4600 pounds, but did 204 mph off showroom floor). Article
said in first gear the rear tires are seeing over 8000 ft-lbs of torque!  What!!??  Seems they get that number my multiplying the engines
max torque of 650 ft-lb by the automatic trannys first gear ratio of about 12.5 to 1.  First I have ever heard of torque
presented this way?

72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

And 204mph on a showroom car?

Yep!!  Hard to beliive. They went to a big oval track, upped the tire press to 40 psi, to handle the g's in the turns,
installed a roll cage, and went 204!!!  Pretty shocking to me!

I think that beats the most powerful corvette, as far as off showroom floor.

When they tested the hellcat motor, they had to have all car accessories on.  Word is actual engine hp is around 800hp!
We're not in Kansas anymore!!!
