CP
I have this tranny apart (833) and everything looks beautiful  (but it should it was bought brand new -not rebuilt - from mopar ) only has less than 3000 miles on it . problem is at 2500 rpm and above it rattles like the countershft is coming out of it. checked the counter end play and it is less than .028 as per manual. its quiet whenu spin it. On the main shaft the first gear seems to have excessive end play in it . Cant tell how much but more than i think it should. the shaft and the tail shaft bearing doesnt move just the first gear. Is this normal? the manual doesnt mention it at all and it looks like it should be tight against the snap ring behind 1st gear (up against the bearing) and the snap ring on the 1st-2nd-Reverse gear.

I have seen that too , I though a thicker snap ring might help, part # 21 , Jamie passion says there is only 1 thickness of snap ring availkable & the play is normal , the trannies I have seen it on have not had shifting problems nor made noise so I have no t worried about it
What gear/s does it make noise in , under laod , coasting or decelerating ?

it rattles in all gears (hard to hear in first ) from 2500 rpm up and the harder you push it the louder it gets  The rattle is identicle to the rattle a countershaft makes when the bearings are shot ...but these are excellent shape ..infact the only thing that doesnt seem factory new was the play in 1st gear

now something I came up with is ..I'm running atf in it (always have ) and never heard this noise before but the service manual says to switch to 140 gear lube for rattling gears....seems extreme on a factory new tranny. Part of the reason I thought a bearing was out or we poped of a snap ring is its inconsistancy when changeing gears...sometimes it just doesnt want to go into a gear unless you double clutch it and on easy shifts it will grind the syncro's (never did thatt before either )but all synchros are perfect. I figured prob was caused by mainshaft movement ..but all seems fine except 1st gear as I said . The input shaft bearing rumbles a little bit but I never seen one thaat didnt even new .
Any ideas appreciated other wise its going back together and filling with 20-50 gtx

also there wasnt one metal chip or flake in the atf when I took it apart

I can`t think of anyhting , unless the case was machine wrong & the 2 shafts are too far apart , I only use atf for extreme cold climates , it should have 80/90 , 75 /90 synthetic or Mopar manual trans synthetic lube not atf or engine oil , I use the Mopar syntetic gear oil
