Purchase price of different engine options
« on: February 08, 2015 - 02:45:37 PM »
This came up in discussion the other night. If you took three equally optioned cars, let's say 71 Challenger, what would the price difference be between a 340-4, a 440-4 and a Hemi?

if your talking current market http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1971/Dodge returned these #s with no options added
AVERAGE price 340-$23,900, 440-6-$57,800, HEMI-$152,800.

Found the original #s to doing a little Googlin.
The base price for a Challenger R/T in 1971 was $3,273
440 6-bbl. V-8, $253.20
Hemi option  $892

Exactly the argument my Dad used to delay my purchase in 1971.

There's no such thing as a 1971 440-4 Challenger :2cents:

$892 in 1971 = $5,143.74 today.

If you had invested $892 in the S&P500 in 1971 it would be worth about $74,000.00 today.
................or  $4,265 (list Price) would be $352,440 better than twice the value of the HEMI car today.
