what is this?
« on: January 30, 2015 - 09:09:51 AM »
I took all the covering off the seats and at the front of the bucket seat base inside is a little what looks like a screw eye. It's not hooked to anything and there is one on each bucket seat base. Anyone know what it's there for?

What year are we talking about?  I think earlier Challengers had different seat tracks with release mechanisms on both the inner and outer tracks.  There was a metal cable that ran under the seat between each track.  When you pull the release lever to move the seat back, the cable moves a lever on the opposite track.  The cable runs through that eyelet.  My 68 Dart seats are this way.  My 73 Challenger doesn't use a cable setup.  There is only a release mechanism on the "outer" tracks.

It's a 1970. You are right about the track release only on the outside track but that does sound like a logical reason.

Here is a view of one of my buckets. The eyelet is at the right of the photo (front edge of the seat), holding the metal piece that keeps tension on the cable between the two tracks.

Thanks for the pic. I see now. My car originally came with the 6 way seat but when I got the car it was mostly in parts. I used the parts to put the car back together again but not knowing anything at the time about a Gran Coupe I didn't think the six way seat base belonged to this car since I only had one. One day I was cleaning out stuff and I thru it out. What an idiot! The tracks on there now must have come from the 1974 parts car that was part of the deal. The factory must have stopped using the opposite side adjuster to save money.  I never throw anything out now.
