Aftermarket tach mounting locations
« on: January 14, 2015 - 12:45:45 PM »
Hey guys,

In the future I plan on doing a full cis tom guage cluster to replace my standard dash, but for now, I'm installing a full MSD system and want to add a tach, where are you guys mounting them?  Let's see some pics please!

Thanks in advance!

I've mounted a Mallory dial-adjustable rev-limiter tach directly in front of the rally dash tach, same diameter, attached to the upper plate of the inside dash (almost looks factory!).  However, the smaller diameter steering wheel I have (11.5") does cross over the view of the tach, along without the crush plate (deep dish Superior-brand wheel), but you get used to it (possibly, a tilt column would relieve that issue).   I've also occasionally had a small ~2.5" tach simply velcroed directly in my line-of-site on top of the dash.... for autocross and road course lapping, the direct eye-site of the tach is important... look at how the well-thought race cars place their tachs and other gauges.    I would like to eventually make a complete custom dash with plenty of gauges (no need for a clock in the dash... takes up too much valuable space, as well as no need, for me, for a radio/stereo.. too much unnesssary weight (ousted years ago!)... gauges could fit there.. my music tunes come from the engine and the exhaust/Flowmasters!... ;<))
Autocross/road racers go in deeper... and come out harder!

See  MOPAR ACTION MAGAZINE, AUGUST 2006 ISSUE for featured article and details on my autocross T/A.

For years I had my tach and shift light hanging from my visor mount. I never had to take my eyes off the road to see the tach and it never obscured my vision. Only problem was that the first time the shift light flashed on it was so bright I almost drove off the road ...LOL

Now I have my cage in I mount it off the cage in the lower left corner of the windshield and use my peripheral  vision to see the needle so I still don't take my eyes off the road

I made up a bracket similar to that, but mounted the tach underneath it so it fits in the corner, Rally dash the clock is in that corner. I'll try to get some pics today.
here's a pic.
