Lower control arm help....
« on: January 11, 2015 - 09:15:21 PM »
I have ordered and rec'd a front suspension "super kit" from Mancini racing.

The lower control arm bushing K791 doen't seem to be the right ones.    The shaft of the pin won't come close to going in the inner sleeve of the bushing.  As far as I know, the pins are original to the car.  I called Mancini and they only sell that part number for a 73 E body.

Any suggestions?

Have you removed the sleeve from the old bushing, that will usually stay on the pivot pin, you can remove it by making a chisel indent the length of it.

That's what is weird.  There was no sleeve, just a rubber bushing aroung the pin.  Both are completely worn out.  One still has a number on it 1858024   I know it has never been changed out, just the ball joints back in '81.

Reborn73, if that was an OEM bushing, it will have an inner sleeve that is pressed on the pin, look real close because  that sleeve will almost look like it is part of the pin.

Thank you sir. !!  I just proved my arms are not long enough.  Can you say Bifocals are needed.   You are correct, when I looked at the pins with my eyes on,,,,,,you can see the metal sleeve.  I had ran it across the bench grinder and "cleaned" it all shinny and the seam of the sleeve just looked like a natural seam on the pin.

New ones all pressed on now and ready to go.

Thanks again.

Glad you can now get it together, enjoy working on that front suspension.
