Shaker to hood rubber seal
« on: October 29, 2014 - 10:44:59 AM »
This is what mine looks like after I took off the duct tape. Should a good seals ends fit closer together and is there something that's suppose to hold them together ?

It comes as one piece . . . it appears that the seal where the two ends came together failed at one point and someone decided duct tape was the answer.   :dunno:

A friend of mine came up with a fix after I cut my seal a little short.Get a piece of rubber hose, insert the hose after gluing it into the open slot of the seal. Then glue the remaining edges and  secure with a big binder clip.Use 2 clips 1 where the hose is and the other where you join the seal.Use blue tape on the seal when you put the glue on so you don't get glue all over.

I think black duct tape was original... I saw plenty of cars with it back in the mid 70's...  A12 cars, T/A's & AAR's & Shaker cars.. All had a taped seam on the seal... And when you bought a new seal through Chrysler it wasn't one piece, it was supplied long & you cut it to fit...

I bought a seal for my 6 barrel base from this guy recommended from Dave at Roseville.  The seal is perfect 1 thick piece.

I have the same one. This is how I made sure it would stay on the base after gluing.

I ordered this from Dales Cuda.........   http://www.dalescudashop.com/19eshse.html

But I got one that has ends. Did they send the wrong one or is the pic misleading ?

Sounds like you got one that separated at the seam. It should look like the pic on that link you provided.
