Ring gear and pinion mesh
« on: February 06, 2015 - 07:43:09 PM »
Gents,
Attached are some pics of my ring gear and pinion mesh, how does it look? as for driving noise, there is a little whine on coast right at around 35-40 MPH, outside that it seems quiet, the other noise I have out the back is low speed coast in drive around 20MPH it sounds like a clunky rattle! I have a brand new Eaton Trutrac and all new bearings (not axle bearings)

looks like pinion too deep. Pattern should be in the middle of the tooth. Is it correctly by specs? Also too much backlash will make it noisy?

I rebuilt a factory centre with new bearings and shimmed the pinion as per how the factory had set it up, I agree it could be out a smidge further, backlash is on the tighter side. Im about set to change housings to a B body width so will re check again when its out.
