Rivet tool
« on: February 07, 2015 - 11:12:47 PM »
Hey I was wondering what kinda riveter/rivet tool you guys use for tubular rivets to reassemble the heater box for example. I was looking all over the Internet and I can't seem to find a place where I can simply order one.  :clueless:

I never reassembled a heater box but did use a rivet clincher to peen the tubular rivets when attaching lenses to a rallye light bar.
Bought mine at a local nut and bolt supply store: Spaenaur 867-001 1/8 rivet clincher. They come in different sizes for different rivet diameters. There's also a special tool for the head side of the rivet. I didn't bother with that, just used a round punch and was careful how hard I hit the rivet.

Where did you get the rivets you're using on the heater box?   All of the ones I can find at the local hardware stores have heads that are too small so they'd have to be backed up by washers on both ends.

I purchased rivets from either hanson or zoro and rivet tool off of ebay for about $93.  I have used it for some of the small dash rivets.  It looks like a small c-clamp and I think it is used for restoring tonka toys.  It is listed on ebay as "Tonka Semi Tubular Rivet Tool w/1/8 set of Dies Rivets squeezer dies".
