Undercoating
« on: February 19, 2015 - 07:28:10 PM »
I'm in the middle of scraping off a lot of black goo under my barracuda, as it's melting by the exhaust and driveshaft. What is the best undercoating to use? What does everyone else have for protection under their cars?
There is 3M Shuutz, POR-15, Eastwood, etc. I'm looking at something that will last, is heatproof, paintable, and a sound deadener. Anything out there?

3M Body Schutz is good.  If you want a factory look, RestoRick has his own brand of undercoating.  When sprayed correctly, it mimics the factory stuff.  I've also seen others use truck bed liner on the underside.  Stay away from POR-15!

I was thinking of truck bed liner, professionally installed of course.
Just not sure how it would take the heat of the mufflers.

I used Defender Pro (www.uschem.com/index.cfm?page=productDetail&id=158).  Kit comes with everything you need and it was pretty easy.  I gave it a good power wash and then sprayed it on.
