Guns
« on: February 06, 2015 - 08:30:30 AM »
I know a lot of people here are into guns. Can someone tell me what kid of rifle this is? Doing sound design for a western film and would like to find the correct gunshot. Era is late 1800's.

Nope, its an 1873 Winchester, it has the ejection port cover that a 94 does not as well as a sleeker drop in the receiver around the hammer.

I would have said 30-30. Went target shooting with one a bunch of times as a kid.

I used to pretend I was the Rifleman, but if I had ever tried shooting from the hip I wouldve been smacked silly

They were still in the black powder era and quite a few of them were also chambered in matching pistol calibers with 44-40 probably the most common. 30-30 is a 30 caliber round loaded over 30 grains of black powder and 38-55 was another popular one that didn't go on, like the 30-30. Nice old lever gun.

Great! I know I could get answers from the Mopar guys! I do have the sound of a 1873 Winchester. I will use that as an element, now, I will beef it up a bit since they always ask for authentic sounds but in the end  they want a bit more punch etc.
I'll remove the picture now, so I dont get in trouble for posting it, even though I zoomed in so the actor is out of the picture. Thanks guys!

Did some Googling on gunslingers since I'm working on this westernfilm, found this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsU5AMxvlKg&ab_channel=SevakDasadarian

Amazing, I can't believe what I see, first I thought it was fake, but apparently, it's real....
I guess you all know about this guy, but it was the first for me, blown away.

Ya Bob is quick. Used to see him regularly on shows. Shooting coins out of the air, cutting cards in half, making 100 metre shots with a 1911 .45.
Always entertaining. Used to appear with an archery dude that was really good to but I forget his name. I think they called the TV spot 'Impossible Shots'.
