The shifters are easy to rebuild.The full kit is about 100 bucks.I have done 3 of them.

I would go for option 4 , pull it out go through it & see how it works cleaned up & adjusted properly , no cost & if it needs parts you know what you need to replace !!

Good to know about the reverse adjustment.
Don't use it much so I wasn't too worried about adjusting, just dealt with it, knew how to get reverse.

Original car? Rebuild everything. Hurst sell the rebuild kit along with others like Brewers. And put new linkages in as well. Selector levers are real hardend steel so should be ok.

BadJoey,  Just to clarify, did this shifter use to perform well and for whatever reason, now it's not?  Or, is this a problem that you are not well familar with and are trying to figure out where to start?

The reason why I ask is because I went through a similar situation.  The problem ended up being a collection mis-matched parts from various B and E-body linkage operating levers, linkage rods, and shifter mechanism.  Once we obtain the correct parts the car shifts perfectly.
