What are these things? Small plugs from heater box?
« on: February 22, 2015 - 09:49:39 PM »
I feel like "exhibit a" for how not to do things on a car project.  I took the heater box from my 70 Challenger (with a/c) apart last September, and am just now finally putting it back together.  I have these small cone-shaped plugs (7 of them) sitting in the bottom of a plastic cup that had been holding screws and clips from the heater box.  I haven't a clue where these go.  If you recognize them, please tell me where they go.

For those of you just starting a project, I would strongly suggest you keep the time between disassembly and reassembly as short as possible and being an absolute fanatic about "bagging and tagging" parts.

They're not "plugs", they're caps. They cover any exposed screw threads that face the interior compartment or otherwise. :2cents:

Alan, do you know if they were still used in '73? I don't remember seeing any on my car.

Only found on A/C cars and I'm not certain having not worked on too many A/C cars. My guess, probably not. By 1973 they were looking for anyway to save money, so they probably stopped using them. There used to be a similar cap on the tail light screws in the trunk as well...
