The Mad article has you removing that wire from the alternator and splicing it right into the existing fusible link on the red wire.  Either remove it from the alt and splice it into the factory fusible link OR just add an extra fusible link to that wire and leave it hooked up the alt stud

I realize all that, but with the added addition of a heavier gauge charge wire routed directly to the starter relay, why not go an extra step and remove the factory charge wire altogether? It won't really be doing much and it allows for a cleaner modification.

By keeping it hooked up, you are doubling the size of wire that feeds the interior. The factory red wire wasn't large enough.

I think you are thinking of the wire that you splice in btw the starter relay and the remaining blk (alt) wire under the dash.

I guess I'm not understanding you then?  You're taking about completely removing the black wire that was originally hooked up to the alternator correct?

If that is correct, then look at the second page of the Mad article again.  They have you remove that wire from the alt and connect it into the existing fusible link that is attached to the red interior feed wire.  The remaining black wire under the dash and the black wire on the alternator are the SAME wire.

What I'm saying is that you don't have to splice in a wire to the starter relay and the remaining black wire under the dash if you leave the wire connected to the alternator...they are the same wire.

Sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 words....The added red alt wire is 6 or 8 AWG.

The Mad article already shows a jumper wire between the alt and the starter relay.  Why do you show a second one?  If you are going to splice the black wire coming from the interior like the article shows then you can remove the alternator wire.



This is what I'm saying you could do.  No need to do a bunch of mods to your harness this way.  Just add a fusible link on the existing alternator wire for protection.

The Mad mod only uses the existing 10 ga alt wire. That may be sufficient for a 60 amp alternator, but what if you install a much larger alternator? The alt wire that I'm adding is a 6 or 8 ga wire....capable of 75-125 amp alternator. Therefore, why even keep the 10ga wire in place? Most of the charge will be on the heavier wire.

You only need one jumper wire...you are correct.  We are saying the same thing...just in a different way.  If you want to cut up your harness you can do away with the original alt wire.  If you want to keep your harness intact, then use the existing alternator wire for the second interior feed like I showed.  :thumbsup:

I knew we would get there sooner or later. Yes, your method looks fine too....one less wire at the starter relay as well. My main concern is functionality. However, I want a clean installation as well. The factory setup sucks, so I really don't care about keeping it intact. Thanks.

This is what I'm doing...I'm adding a bypass(jumper) wire from the alt to the starter relay.  Then, I'm going to add a fusible link to the existing alt wire...that's it.  I already removed the AMP gauge from the system.
