Custom wiring harness...HeLp!
« on: February 07, 2015 - 08:41:13 AM »
Hey guys and gals! Im currently building a custom/modified 1971 challenger. My question is has anyone used a complete after market wiring harness and what brand. My firewall has deleted holes and smooth finish. I plan on hiding most everything that was there from the factory. I am also running after market A/C and possibly EFI. any input would help me make a decision. Going to make some interior light mods and dash cluster as well..

I have used both Ron Francis & Painless wiring systems , you can also work with the stock harness , I have wired everything in about 10 or more cars now using all of the above methods all work well enough & I suppose i could be available if needed , one car took me approx 4 days to wire everything in custom .

i went with the autowire setup. good customer service, clear instructions and has built in headlight relays, modern fuse box, seperate circuts for fan and power windows. my only complaint is the bulkhead fitting is kinda cheesy and has caused a few minor issues.

I've purchased 2 harnesses from    StreetRodElectrics.com.   Good price, great quality, fast shipping.  One thing I like is they have a coil kill switch on the fuse box.

A friend wanted me to rewire his whole 36 Plymouth streedrod with an 1800 mile 5.9 magnum engine installed at $40 an hour. I told him that I wanted to come over and see what he had and if he had everything ready to go.

He had this EZ-wiring kit that was all in a box.

I pointed out that every wire was labeled from one end to the other with it's designated purpose (like the Ron Francis stuff) and he said it is the lowest price around and his street rod buddies are using them. I saw a complete add-on unit with fuses and flashers. Also a wiring diagram for the turn signals and ignition switch. I said he needed to run every wire front to back and I can hook up the rest. He saw that every wire was labeled and that he might try to do it himself. I don't need the money and have enough to do with my own stuff.

I made a mental note of EZ-wiring in case I ever need to buy a full harness.

Chris, anything Rob does comes out right. He was going to be the person I was gonna suggest to you. He is top notch on fuel injection and wiring, amongst a host of other skills.  Also makes a good friend even if he never does his work for you. All around good guy

LOL.  Thanks Al.  I just saw Don's Cuda doing a huge burnout on facebook after he picked it up.  Seems like you are the one that does great work.
