Pulling axles, Dana 60
« on: March 11, 2015 - 03:45:40 PM »
Got the Dana in today from Dr. Diff. Have to pull the axles to install backing plates/brakes. Any tips other than unbolting the flanges and slide hammer out ?  Shop manual mentions some shims that might dislodge  :22yikes: requireing disassembly of the guts  :scared:  I don't want to go there.   :eek4:  Thanks in advance. Just a little irritated it didn't all come assembled as a unit, it was ordered that way.

I would give a quick call to Cass at Dr. Diff. Not sure what carrier he used, but he should be able to tell you.

I've heard conflicting reports about factory Dana's....One source says, yea, just pull them out, another says they're clipped on the inside ? :dunno:

No C clips , but there could be a button in the sure grip that could fall out if there is an end play adjustment

Contact Cass.  I did mine two years ago to do the same thing you are doing.  Slide them out, install disc brake brackets and reinstall the axels.  very easy and no issues.

Thanks for the input guys, E mailed Cass this morn, he responded immediately, no C clips, buttons, or shims. Just yank them out, install brakes, slam em back in.  It's a done deal.  :ylsuper: BTW, these 35 spline axles are awesome.   :woohoo:
