Found some stuff not sure what it is
« on: March 21, 2015 - 02:01:24 PM »
Was doing some work in the trunk the other day, found some stuff I am not curious about?

On the right side of the trunk I had a filler neck type tube, although it was connected to like 4-5 lines from the fuel tank. I would assume some kind of emissions deal or fuel pressure equalizer on corners or something? What would that be?

Right side of this photo will show it.

Have 2 square plates in my trunk floor. Sort of like this. I didn't think they were supposed to be there and there is a rust crack under one of them. Although I have a seen a couple of cars with them.

Thanks guys

Yes: Emissions vapour system on the right side. Those plates are the muffler hangar brackets.

What year is your car ? All 1971's and some 72's had that fuel tank vent tube. If your car is a 70 then it was sold new with California emissions.

ALL dual exhaust E Bodies would have those rectangle plates in the trunk, except AAR's and T/A's of course. :2cents:

you can buy new plates that are very accurate re-pops, on some cars they held the exhaust, others they only held the heat shield. Pending make/model

Number ONE rule, never throw any car part away UNTIL you know what is and can it be replaced. Glad the trash man had not picked up the parts!!

Haha yeah I've followed that rule good mostly. Was only in shop trash bin so I grabbed it out yesterday, taped them together and labeled them and put them on the shelf.

question about that E bodies with dual exhaust, was this for all years? My car has some makeshift exhaust hangers in place since it was not originally a dual exhaust car, I'm thinking  need to source some of these if they were correct on a 74.

74 is different but it's not reproduced & the 70-73 design works.... In 74 a bracket bolts to the muffler then goes over to the frame rail so if the trunk floor rusts away he exhaust doesn't fall off...
