Don't want to sound stupid here (that is usually half my battle), but isn't gear vendors under/overdrive system the same as I have in my Corvette ??? I have a 1985 manual 4+3 Trans. It is basically is manual shift standard gear ratio until I press the overdrive button on the console and it gives me an extra set of gears with tighter ratios.

I think you're thinking Keisler.  Keisler makes bellhousings to adapt modern GM trannies to other blocks, but GV sells an overdrive unit that bolts on in place of the tailshaft.

Just for reference, I don't think it is a GVs transmission, could be similar but not from GVs.
GVs manual transmission OD system multiply gears, therefore his 4 -Speed would become "8".

I’ve been running ASS (Auto Shift Sequencer) for a few years now, on my -71 HEMI Cuda conv clone.
….and I’m NOT impressed.
Here is my theory as to why it doesn’t work very well;
To shift, the GV needs a certain oil quantity…which is provided by an internal pump driven by the 727 output shaft.
Large engines (high torque) makes the car accelerates fast, hence numbers of 727 output rotations between gearshifts becomes LESS than for a smaller engine….. and the GV NEEDS oil quantity to switch gear.
RPM x time (= number of rotations ) x oil pump displacement =oil quantity.
I hope GV makes an adequate solution, which I guess will require mods in oil supply. :violin:

Sounds like you need to email Carl at carlwalski@xtra.co.nz to find out how he fixed his Gear Vendors Autoshift Sequencer ..... failing that sell it to me and let me have a go at working with it. Love to get my hands on one.
