Converting form column shift to floor ****erHi
« on: May 27, 2015 - 04:42:02 PM »
Hi got a Barracuda that I will convert to floor/console shifter and my question is:

Is there any way to remove and replace the PRND21 on the column so it looks like a factory "console shifter car".

Ideas?

When I did mine I just hunted around until I found a floor shift column and installed the whole thing rather than trying to take it apart.

Post a picture of that area on the column.  On FABO, their was a post on how to convert an A-body column shift column to a floor shift column.  It basically involved cutting off the raised area that houses the PRND21, then metal finishing the area to look stock.  It can probably be done on an E-body depending on how the column was designed.  It would be less work to just swap in another floor shift column.  It would be cheaper to modify your existing one.

You can rebuild your column using the original pieces but swap out the one collar with a floor shift column piece.
Easier to just buy and restore another column. :2cents:

Thanks for ideas!

Well I live in Sweden so just "buy a new one" is not that easy... yea sure I can buy on eBay but the price rise to like 3 times or even 4 times with shipping, taxes, tolls and customs. And a couple of months waiting :)

I pull it and cut off the gear seletor panel... sounds I can do that this weekend and end up with a drivable car again on monday - hopefully :)

Pretty sure I saw a conversion piece featured as a new product in the latest issue of MCG.  Not sure who makes it or if it's available, but I can check.  Will be much cheaper than an original I'm guessing.

Wait wait wait!!!!  If you don't want to cut off the column pieces, I am pretty sure I have some spare pieces that can be used to convert the column to a floor **** unit.

I will sell them to you for the cost of shipping.  Just post a pic of the column so I know which pieces you need.

I also have a great PDF document (anybody tired of me posting about that yet), that will walk you through how to rebuild / convert the column.  Just PM me your email address and I will send it to you.
